Somebody who wants Japanese hot-spring bathing as the Japanese actually do it — a large hotel, enormous baths, a bay below them — rather than a boutique interpretation of it. This is not a wellness clinic and does not claim to be; it is the best seat in the onsen capital of Japan.

- Sits in the Kankaiji district — one of the eight designated Beppu Hattō thermal areas — with its own sources rather than piped water.
- The terraced open-air baths above the bay are the single most recognisable onsen view in Kyūshū.

No clinical team, and none is claimed. Onsen bathing here is a bathing culture rather than a supervised therapy, and any property that tells you otherwise is selling you something. Bathing attendants and a spa, not physicians.
