The short version

Who this house is for

Somebody who wants the classical Central European spa town experience — colonnades, mineral water, a grand hotel with two hundred years behind it — rather than a clinical programme. The medical cure in Karlovy Vary happens at the sanatoria; the Pupp is where you stay while you take it.

The signature

A base for the classical drinking cure, with the colonnades and the Vřídlo geyser a short walk away.

These photographs show Karlovy Vary and the disciplines practised at this house. They are not photographs of the property — we would rather show you the place honestly than dress a stock picture up as a room you have not been sold.

What it is known for

Why this house has the reputation it has

  1. It anchors the colonnade walk that IS the drinking cure: the whole town is arranged around walking between springs, and the Pupp sits at the end of it.
  2. A spa wing offering the classical Karlovy Vary treatments — carbon-dioxide baths, peat, and the mineral-water protocols — alongside the hotel.
  3. It is the practical base for a three-week cure for anybody who does not want a socialist-era sanatorium, which is the town’s other main option.
  4. Its film-festival association keeps it in international view in a way no other Czech spa hotel manages.

What we would tell you on the phone

The hotel is not the cure. The medicine here belongs to the spa physicians and the springs, and a grand hotel room does not make the water work better — several plainer houses in town deliver the same prescribed course for a fraction of the price. Book the Pupp because you want to be comfortable for three weeks, not because you think it is the treatment.

We do not sell a programme at this house. It is profiled here because people ask about it. If it is the one you want, book with the property directly — or tell us what you are trying to achieve and we will suggest a house we do work with.

The rooms, and which one to ask for

  • 01

    Classic room

In the older wings, and the reason to stay here.

  • 02

    Deluxe room

Larger, on the river or the forest side.

  • 03

Categories and names are as published by the property and are confirmed in writing at the quote. Where we would take a different room from the one the programme is quoted in, the note says so.

Wellness at Grandhotel Pupp

Who is actually here

A spa and balneology department in the hotel, with the town’s medical spa physicians available for the classical prescribed drinking cure. The serious cure is a doctor-led course at a sanatorium and we will book that separately where it is what you need.

We do not publish clinicians' names anywhere on this site. They move, which makes a named page quietly untrue, and naming one invites you to book a person no house can promise will be on shift — assignment is made on arrival, from your examination. What is worth knowing is how many there are and what they hold.

What the building contains

  • Balneology and spa department
  • Pool and thermal area
  • Grand ballroom and concert hall
  • Casino
  • The Diana funicular a short walk away
  • On the Teplá river in the middle of the colonnades

At the table

Eating here

On a prescribed programme the food is part of the treatment rather than a choice — which is worth knowing before you arrive expecting a wine list.

  • Grandrestaurant

A nineteenth-century dining room and a menu to match. Formal, and the correct thing to do once.

  • Café Pupp

The spa wafers, the coffee and the Becherovka.

Between treatments

How the days go

What there is to do here when you are not being treated, on site and within reach of it.

  • The colonnade drinking circuit
  • Moser glassworks
  • The Diana tower
  • Loket castle
  • The film festival in July

We cannot book this one. It is profiled because the destination is not complete without it and because people ask us about it — but we have no arrangement here, so book with the property directly rather than through us. We would rather say that than take an enquiry we cannot fulfil. Researched independently. Grandhotel Pupp has not reviewed or endorsed this page.
