Why this house has the reputation it has
- Patients are carried by train roughly 2.5 km into the Radhausberg, to conditions of about 37–41.5 °C at 70–100% humidity in mildly radon-rich air. The specific concentrations quoted online could not be substantiated, so we do not publish them.
- It is a medical facility with a referral pathway, not an attraction — the operator specifies eight to ten sessions of about an hour, with a medical consultation first.
- The galleries have been in therapeutic use for more than seventy years, in collaboration with the Gastein research institute of Paracelsus Medical Private University, Salzburg.
- Austrian, German and South Tyrolean statutory insurers cover the course where it is medically justified.
What we would tell you on the phone
Radon is a Group 1 human carcinogen and the therapeutic case rests on a contested low-dose hypothesis. Older controlled trials suggested a real analgesic effect; the prospective placebo-controlled RAD-ON02 trial did not confirm it. Entry is by referral, dose-controlled, and excluded in pregnancy and under eighteen. If that balance sits badly with you, take the thermal course in the same valley instead — we will not push the galleries.

Physicians and medical staff at the gallery itself — every course begins with a medical examination and is prescribed as a course of sessions rather than sold as a single treatment. The facility is a recognised medical one and is reimbursed by some European health systems.
