What this actually is
The programme
Rasayana is the branch of Ayurveda written for depletion — after treatment, after a hard birth, after a long illness, after three years of sixteen-hour days. Nothing is removed and everything is rebuilt: medicated ghee, gentle daily therapy, a widening rather than a narrowing diet.
It runs on a hundred-acre palace estate at a thousand metres with the valley below, which matters more than it sounds: guests who cannot face an austere clinic will actually complete a fortnight here.
Intensity: Gentle — nothing dramatic. Every programme here carries this line, because "restorative" and "demanding" are sold with the same photographs.
Read this part twice
Who this is for, and who it is wrong for
Read the right-hand column as carefully as the left. It is the half that decides whether this is a good fortnight or a wasted one, and it is published before the price for that reason.
✓Book this if
Recovery after illness, surgery or a difficult birth — with your doctor’s letter
Long-term exhaustion that sleep no longer touches
Anyone who has done a cleanse before and found it took more than it gave
Guests over sixty, for whom purification is often the wrong tool
✗Do not book this if
Anyone in active treatment — come when the acute phase has finished
Anyone whose real goal is weight loss
Guests who want to feel that something dramatic is happening
The shape of it
Day by day
Days shift according to how you respond — that is the point of a daily review. This is the structure, not a timetable.
Assessment and stabilising
Days 1–4
A slower start than any other programme we sell: bloods, a long history, and four days of eating and sleeping to a schedule before therapy begins in earnest.
Full history and pathology
Sleep re-anchored first
Light abhyanga only
Nourishing
Days 5–11
Daily therapy chosen for building rather than moving — pizhichil, navarakizhi, medicated ghee — with a diet that adds rather than subtracts.
Pizhichil and navarakizhi
Rasayana preparations
Walking, never training
Carrying it home
Days 12–14
A three-month protocol written with your actual life in it, and two follow-ups built in.
Three-month written protocol
Six-week and three-month follow-ups
Preparations shipped at week ten
A day, hour by hour
What a Tuesday actually looks like
Three to four hours are fixed. This is the least demanding schedule on the site, deliberately.
WakeNo bell, no obligation. Depleted guests are allowed to sleep.
Gentle hatha or a valley walk
Breakfast on the terrace
Consultation and therapyPhysician first, then two hours of pizhichil or navarakizhi.
LunchPrescribed, but generous — this programme adds rather than subtracts.
FreeMost guests sleep. That is the intention.
Vedanta or meditation session
Second treatment, or the spa
DinnerLight, early, and the valley goes dark below you.
Where you stay
Ananda in the Himalayas
India’s first destination spa, on the Maharaja of Tehri Garhwal’s palace estate above the Ganga valley — and for twenty years the most decorated wellness address in Asia.
You will not find a physician's name on this site. Staff move, and a page that names one is a page that quietly goes out of date — worse, it invites you to book a person no house can promise will be on shift. Assignment is made on arrival, from your examination, at every serious property here.
Clinical supervision
Ayurvedic physicians on site, with yoga and Vedanta teachers alongside. Every programme opens with a physician's assessment and the prescription is revised through the stay.
The team around you
A large treatment team across twenty-four treatment rooms — the house does not thin out in high season, which is where smaller properties quietly drop to one treatment a day.
Consultations
An opening assessment, mid-programme review and departure consultation, plus daily contact with the therapy team.
Your consultation is with our clinical desk, not a salesperson. The free call before you book is about whether this programme is right for you at all — and often enough it ends with a recommendation to go shorter, later, or somewhere we do not sell.
Counted, so you can compare
What is actually in it
Most of this industry publishes inclusions as a bulleted list, which cannot be compared between two programmes at two prices. These can.
26hours of therapy
Ayurvedic and cleansing therapies across the fourteen nights, in a spa of about twenty-five thousand square feet with twenty-four treatment rooms.
14hours of personal sessions
Yoga, pranayama and meditation one to one, in addition to the group timetable.
8hours of consultation
Ayurvedic assessment, an emotional-healing session, nutrition and the departure protocol.
100acres of sal forest
With walking trails, meditation pavilions and the Ganges valley below.
The money
Prices, by season and occupancy
Both occupancies in every band, before you enquire rather than after. Sole occupancy is not half a double and never has been — publishing only the sharing rate quotes the minority of this market and surprises the rest.

Low season. Too hot for a full schedule in May and June; landslide season in the hills in July and August. We sell these months only to people who ask for them.
Shoulder. Cold clear mornings and unheated halls in midwinter; September is still emptying out after the monsoon.
High season. Warm days, cold nights, and a river running green. The months to come, and priced accordingly.
What the price is. Per person for fourteen nights in a valley-view room, including all meals from the wellness kitchen, the prescribed therapy hours, daily yoga and Vedanta, consultations, use of the hydrotherapy facilities and return airport transfers from Dehradun. Flights quoted separately.
Illustrative, and held for seven days once we have quoted you in writing. Nothing on this site costs more for booking it through us.

Questions
The ones we are actually asked
Do I really need a letter from my doctor?
Yes, and we will not book without one if you are within a year of treatment for a serious condition. The physician needs to know what was done, what you are taking, and what your own team wants avoided. It is the one piece of paperwork we never waive.
Why is this so much more expensive than Kerala?
Because you are paying for a hundred-acre palace estate as well as the medicine. The clinical content at Somatheeram or Kalari Kovilakom is comparable and costs substantially less. What Ananda adds is comfort — and for a depleted guest, comfort is sometimes what makes a fortnight possible at all.
